Esalen Massage Defined

Esalen Massage Defined

The sound of the waves provides a soothing background for any massage session at Esalen Institute, Big Sur, California. This sound, coupled with the cliffside natural hot springs and the educational community dedicated to exploring the "far reaches of human potentiality", inspires a unique approach to bodywork known worldwide as Esalen® Massage.

The ocean provides a slow-moving rhythm very much akin to the internal rhythms of the body. The receiver rests on the massage table, draped, and the practitioner's hands begin quietly, with presence, attending to breath, allowing the receiver to drop inward. The long, slow, t'ai chi-like strokes awaken awareness, and as the tissues open to the warm of touch, the contact deepens, nudging bound-up muscles, drawing forth expanded movement. A relaxing sigh resounds through the body, and the practitioner responds with integration strokes into related areas. The massage continues, seamlessly, wrapping the torso arms, legs, hands, feet, neck, and spirit into a united whole.

The practitioner brings a knowledge of strokes (many have roots in Swedish Massage), of muscles and bones, of movement, of listening to the body as well as the words. Prior to the session, he/she pays attention to his own physical comfort, and quiets down internal chatter to welcome inner guidance, or intuition. As he massages, the practitioner responds to the signs of relaxation: deepened breath, enhanced circulation, a sigh, perhaps flutters of the eyelids. Each session is unique, tailored by personal requests, comfort level, physical tension and release, the felt sense of intuition.

The effects of this intentional touch, loosely categorized as "wellness/stress management massage", range widely. For some, it brings a renewed sense of health and vigor, others may regain a sense of safety with regard to touch. Often old tension patterns break free and old emotions are released. It signals a return to one's nature, a switch from everyday consciousness into a calmer, more colorful space less inhabited by the constraints of time and place. An out-of-ordinary reality.

The sources of this rich work are endless: it was informed by sensory awareness, Swedish massage, oriental medicine, meditation, gestalt practice. The influence of deeper work borrowed from Ida Rolf's teachings, Moshe Feldenkrais' sense of neural co-ordinates, Milton Trager's passive movement to awaken the mind, yoga stretches, somatic mind-body psychology, and more energetically based polarity massage and cranial-sacral work continue to "grow" the work. Each practitioner translates this into his/her personal art form.

At the heart of the session is a sense of empowering each individual to regain a sense of harmony, reverence, and balance, and to awaken inner resources for healing. It is not unusual to hear, "That was the most amazing massage I've ever received."

Aveda sponsors AIDS walk in Camden

For beautiful eyes look for the good in others
For beautiful lips speak only words of kindness
For Poise walk with the certainty that you are never alone

I like this alot. I decided to be the makeup artist and therapist at the Aids Walk for Children. It was really nice, I went with three other girls we set up an AVEDA booth and gave free hand and arm massages and makeup touches to the peole that were walking. It was such an experience to meet these children that have AIDS, but not only to meet them but to meet the people that adopted them ( most were born with it and placed for adoption or taken from the birth mothers who had drug problems).. It was veryt inspirational for me to meet all these people that loved them. I think it is so sad to come into the world with a death sentence but everyone is here for a reason and God will protect them with angels. We are everyday angels and we should all try to just give back a little bit more

Power of Touch

days.

What is the power of touch anyway?

Science tells us that a touch triggers the release of brain endorphins: an endogenous analgesic more powerful than heroin or morphine. But touch is more than just a scientific confluence of brain chemicals.

My late grandmother used to tell me that the only way to tame a wild cat was to rub the cat's forehead several times. One day, a relative from the mountain village gave my family a wild female cat. She was small but fierce. Nobody in the house dared to touch her.

Grandma's wisdom compelled me to try. I approached the cat. Initially, she would jump and would bend its body and tail in rage. Meanwhile, a loud, ferocious cry would come out from her vicious mouth. Each time I attempted to touch her, she would run away. Eventually I prevailed. She later gave in and allowed me to rub her forehead: initially, for a few seconds, then for a few minutes.

After a few days, she considerably softened that she would allow me to rub her head almost no end. Eventually she became my pet. We became very close that she would run to meet me when I come from school and would convey a lonely cry when I depart. Yes, like real close friends.

A touch can indeed tame a wild animal. But can it tame and soften a disturbed child? A study shows that children who have not been hugged enough have a tendency to be violent and aggressive compared to those who receive hug more often.

Perhaps, there is more to hug and touch than just release of endorphins.

A touch provides comfort in a freezing night. It makes us feel secure because it unites us with an affectionate, loving, and feeling human being. The warmth it brings is better than the warmth a fireplace can provide.

A touch shields us from the worries of today because of the confidence it brings. Like internet, it allows high-speed access to another soul.

Back to the Ocean...a jersey shore spa destination on location treatment

So here is my specialty back treatment
I start by using an invigorating body wash and I wash your back, cover with hot towels and remove.
I then rub a dead sea scrub into your skin which feels like a massage on the ocean.
I give you a vigorous head massage and tug your hair playing with it in my hands
I remove salt treatment and rub aloe with a paintbrush up and down your spine and all the inches of your back
Then massage you with heated oils
This is available all over the body too, if that is what youd like ; )

On Massages and Intimacy

I think with every massage there is a certain chemistry between the therapist and the client. It is so intimate to touch and be touched. I love to feel the energy between my body and anothers... To take in all the responses to touch and the energy that flows between us. It is unihibited sensual and so very neccesary especially with all the problems in the world today. To me massage is all about healing letting go and its something that I am very passionate about. One on One time with any client is something special to me to explore without boundries- an escape from a very complicated and harsh world. Most of my clients I go to the Atlantic City casinos to see. I walk in the casino after valeting my car and I am surrounded by madness-machines, money, etc. I can feel anxiousness and greeed all around me. And that is where my heling has led me to. I am a nuturer in every sense. To nuture another to me, is a moment of true peace and serenity.

Hello Atlantic Cityfrom Brenda at 609 892 0031

Hey everyone!!! How are things in Atlantic City? Well, first and foremost I love the Water Club where I have been doing a couple of massages lately and I am loving esalen massage as well. Basically I love going to the water club at the borgata for esalen sessions! I have two girls who are consistently working with me for the four handed and couples massage. I decided I should add special treatments to each massage, such as a back treatment or customized AVEDA facial. Yesterday I went to Rizzieri Aveda School and got a massage for 60 minutes which was just completly blissful. Hot towels, nice creams and alot of full body strokes from my head to my feet drifing over all the rest of my body. Then I preceded to ree3ive a 30 minute facial with a specialized eye zone treatment. It was magnificent! There is nothing like getting a massage and facial with hands and brushes all over your body. So I incorporate all of that into my treatmnets, basically what I like to feel is what I give. Every client is different though and I always go with what I feel inside and the chemistry of our two energies and bodies drifting together for the moment in time we share. Call me at 609 892 0031 to be sure to share these very special moments with me

Sensual massage, just that sensual, not of a sexual nature--a big misunderstanding!!!

With sensual massage, the skin being the largest sense organ of the body, thereby explaining why we have such a strong, innate need for sensual touch. Yes, we all have the "need" for touch. Consider how a child is reassured by a warm hug, how holding the hand of a loved brings feelings of comfort, or how a sensual massage back rub eases away tension. The simplest physical contact from a sensual massage therapist can trigger emotional and mental connections in return. The benefits of a sensual massage, especially a erotic sensual massage between lovers, are thus magnified. Ultimately, a sensual massage reduces stress levels and is believed to be highly beneficial for overall health. A massage that is done by a registered sensual massage therapist can improve circulation, the immune system and brain functions. Sensual massage is suggested to soothe muscles, headaches and certain allergies. It has even been credited with aiding the digestive and nervous systems.
Let's first unlock the differences between various types of sensual massage.
1. Deep tissue massage is mainly used for sports.
2. Therapeutic massage is to relax and/or produce healthful benefits.
3. Swedish massage utilizes the entire hand in generally flowing movements to work muscles.
4. Shiatsu massage is a Japanese method of using the fingers to knead pressure points.
5. Sensual massage therapy holds the purpose of simply soothing, relaxing and stimulating the senses.
A sensual massage should be anything but rushed. Take the time to truly savor the entire sensual massage process. If assuming the role of "receiver," put aside all worries and responsibilities. Just bask in all the incredible sensations to experience.

I love doing these this time of the year!!

Salt glow is also known as a salt scrub or sea salt scrub. It is the most popular at the spa. A salt glow exfoliates your skin, it sloughs off the skin's outermost dead skin cells. A salt glow treatment serves to hydrates your skin because the salt is combined with oil and usually some aromatic like lemon, lavender, or even figs. The application of the salt is followed by a shower and an application of body lotion, and leaves your skin feeling very soft and fragrant.
When the therapist will rub a mixture of sea salt, oil, and aromatics like lemon or lavender into your skin. When finished, shower to rinse off all the salt. It is best not to use shower gel – it’s good to keep the oil and aromatics on your skin.
After the salt glow treatment, you can further go for a seaweed or mud wrap. That’s because exfoliation prepares the skin for products like seaweed or algae that detoxify the body by stimulating circulation through vasodilatation of blood capillaries.
You can also combine a salt glow with a massage. Normally the therapist will recommend you to do salt glow first because it is stimulating, whereas the massage calms you down. Sometimes spas have signature treatments that combine both services – salt glow and massage.
You can do the same with a sugar scrub, but you use sugars instead of the salts

Hi Brenda,

I just wanted to thank you again for such a wonderful massage this morning. I didn’t get a chance to thank you properly since I was a little groggy after the massage. I think I almost fell asleep on the table….. It was without a doubt the best massage I ever had.

I definitely want to get another massage Thursday so I will be fresh for my ride home on Friday. But, I am not sure that will be enough. Is it harmful to get too many massages in a short period of time. I would love to get another one tomorrow. I thought an hour would be enough, but it went so quick I want more……

Thanks Again,
Mike

I am a client of Mrs Brenda Skroski and intend to remain one for a long time. Her techniques in Massage Therapy are outstanding. She carries herself in very professional manner, that each session feels as if your there for the very first time. You arrive with aches and pains and by the time you leave you feel as if your in a new body. I have recommended Mrs. Skroski to many friends and relatives, knowing that there sessions with her would bring them back again and again. Its so very easy to say that Mrs Skroski ranks as one of the best in South Jersey.

Quotes by Kevyn Aucoin

I spent much of my life hiding.
Kevyn Aucoin

Yes, but everyone is beautiful to someone.
Kevyn Aucoin

Beauty is about perception, not about make-up. I think the beginning of all beauty is knowing and liking oneself. You can't put on make-up, or dress yourself, or do you hair with any sort of fun or joy if you're doing it from a position of correction.
Kevyn Aucoin

Life is too short to spend hoping that the perfectly arched eyebrow or hottest new lip shade will mask an ugly heart.
Kevyn Aucoin

That's why I began doing makeup in the first place: I was hoping that through helping people see the beauty in themselves, I could try and find it in me.
Kevyn Aucoin

I'm going to insult a whole industry here, but it seems like TV is for people who can't do film. I'm not talking about actresses; I'm talking about lighting people. Lighting on TV is just so... it's sinful, it really is.
